Selection tips

Here are some tips for selecting millo:

  • Green and Fresh Leaves: Choose ears with fresh, green outer leaves. Dry or yellowed leaves indicate that the corn has been too long since harvested.
  • Firm and Full Beans:The kernels should be firm, full and aligned in even rows. Avoid ears with wrinkled or soft kernels, as this can be a sign of aging or poor quality.
  • Bright color:Look for ears with bright, uniform-colored kernels. The beans should be golden or yellow, depending on the variety, and without discoloration.
  • Weight and size:Select ears that feel heavy for their size. This usually indicates that they are full of juicy, fresh grains.
  • Without Gaps:Make sure there are no gaps or empty spaces between the grains. Holes may be an indication that the corn has not fully developed.
  • Fresh Smell:Corn should have a fresh, sweet smell. Avoid ears that have a sour or moldy smell.
  • Nail Test:If possible, perform the nail test: press a pimple with your nail and see if a milky liquid comes out. This indicates that the corn is fresh and at its optimal sweetness point.

 

Conservation

  • Refrigeration: Store unshelled corn on the cob in the refrigerator to maintain freshness, preferably in a perforated plastic bag.

    Millo pineapple is spectacular, sweet, juicy and with an authentic flavor. Perfect to eat alone or in my natural smoothies.

    The best corn cob I've tried in a long time. Tender, with a sweet and natural flavour, nothing like the ones sold in the supermarket. Perfect for stews, casseroles or even grilled. You can tell it's organic and of good quality.
